Frequently Asked Questions

I have broken or chipped a tooth, can you help?

Yes. Seeing an emergency dentist promptly is vital, even if you are not in pain. Fixing the damaged tooth quickly will prevent infection and possible decay. Call us as soon as the break occurs, and we will fit you in for an assessment.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Any form of dental issue which requires immediate treatment. This could be an injury, an infection, or severe pain. If you are unsure, please call our team who can advise you on whether emergency treatment is needed.

I’ve knocked a tooth out. What do I do?

If you have lost a tooth, please make an appointment as soon as possible. The sooner you see us, the better the chances the root can be saved.

Immediately after it is knocked out, try to reinsert it into the socket to protect the root. If this is not possible, please clean the tooth and bring it with you (if you have it).

I’m suffering with a dental abscess. What should I do?

Dental abscesses will not disappear on their own, and if left untreated can cause serious problems, including possible sepsis. Please call us to arrange an appointment, where one of our dentists will provide treatment for the infection before it spreads.

Will I need to have a tooth extracted?

Our dentists always endeavour to save the natural tooth whenever possible. If this cannot be done, your dentist will discuss your options regarding extraction and dental reconstruction.

Do I need to be registered with the practice for an emergency appointment?

No. We will seek to treat you within 24 hours of your call, whether you are a registered patient or not. Your health and well-being are our ultimate priority.

I’m in extreme pain, would I be better to visit Accident and Emergency?

We would not recommend visiting A&E unless you are suffering excessive bleeding, breathing problems due to swelling, or swelling around the eyes and neck.

Hospitals do not usually have the equipment or expertise necessary to treat dental emergencies. Please contact us and we will arrange to see you as quickly as possible to address your problem.
